The DST of HKCS had organised the third cohort of “Moving Up”, a systematic training series which are designed to engage youth by interacting with animals, from April to August 2017.
During the four-month training, youth were given the opportunities to explore the animal-related industry by experiencing various job positions in the fields of pet grooming, animal hotel, rehabilitation, nutrition, and palliative care for animals, etc. All experience helped enhance their motivation and encourage them to be less resistant to try different new things; young people had also uncovered their positive characteristics at the same time.
After joining the job exposure activities, they were invited to have short-term internship by considering their own career interests. By knowing how the industry really works, the attitudes, knowledge, and skills that they have learnt have facilitated them to set up personal goals and initiate new plans.
We are now recruiting new trainees for the fourth cohort which will begin in November 2017. Interested young people are welcomed to join the animals experience day. For more information, please see the poster below.
The Seeing Eye Dog Trainer:
Young people grasped the opportunity to learn how to guide the seeing eye dogs with Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association. They also learnt how to explain the dogs’ characteristics and shared tips for getting along with them with the general public.
Animal Rehabilitation Assistant:
Young people had their internship in an animal social enterprise. They assisted the injured animals to receive water running treatment and have mastered relevant professional knowledge by consulting the rehabilitation therapists.
